Because Activity is Important

Apparently, the children haven't gotten their snow legs yet. But as Mr. Outdoors Dad will tell me, physical activity and fresh air is very important. And really, I agree. So last week, I took them out for a flounder in the snow.

That's so funny! It *does* take them a few days to get their snow legs, doesn't it?

Mr. Outdoors Dad would be APPALLED at my lackadaisical approach to any and all physical activity (at least in the winter months)!

Mr. Outdoors Dad also has no concept of how much time and energy it takes to get them all dressed to go outside!

As a second thought, maybe you should invite him to prepare the kids for you. Once he'd battled to put on 5 snowsuits, boots and hats, and fought to keep mittens on hands, maybe he'd be more understanding...

A flounder in the snow? Is that like a diamond in the rough?

misfit: It was hilarious. Here I was after some cute shots to send their parents and to use in this blog, and every time my viewfinder cleared (on my digital cam, there's a lag between click and pic, so what you clicked on is NOT what you get)...every time my viewfinder cleared, the kid who'd been upright when I snapped was down in the picture. Every time. Eventually, it got so funny that I just had to blog it - of course!

Haley: What a good idea, but you know, I don't think it would slow him down. It might make him more appreciative of the challenge, yes, but stop him? Nope. This is a guy who takes his two kids out cross-country skiing in the Gatineaus (for non-Ottawans, read hills): one on his back, and one in a trailer! I'm in awe...

Crayonz: Exactly! You're so smart. Don't you just love that last shot, where poor old Thomas is nose-to-nose with the sidewalk?? Diamond-hunting, perchance?

Flounder is about right! How funny is that--like clones from "A Christmas Story"

Cheryl, MrsA: It was one of the funniest outings with them. They're used to snow - they were walking in it last year, but evidently they'd completely forgotten how.

There is a skill to gauging the condition of the sidewalks, avoiding icy bits, looking for suspiciously dark spots, changing your gait a bit when necessary. None of which you think of consciously as an adult, of course, until you see something like this!

Flip, flop, flounder...

Hilarious pictures. I actually just posted one of Quinn face down in the snow several days ago, too. Mary, we have the same shutter lag with our small digital camera, it's so annoying!
