National De-Lurking Week

I've been reading about this here and there, but it was at Grumppopotamus that I found this picture, and had to join in just so I could post it!

Isn't that a great picture??
Do I have lurkers? If you're out there, pop in and say "hello", and then you can sneak away again. I won't ask again for another whole year.

Yes you do. I read your blog most days and really love your stories. I don't have children but I'm taking notes for one day in the future!

I'm not exactly a lurker, but thought I'd say hello anyway. The pic is great.

Hehehe.. ok, I confess, I've been lurking. Like Catherine, I don't have any little people of my own, but I quite enjoy the stories!

I'm a lurker and an admirer! I'm trying to get pregnant right now, and I'm seriously considering printing out your archives and getting them bound. Who needs "What to Expect..." when you're around?!

Hey! I've been lurking for a few months now and I love your site. I especially love the snow pics since we don't get snow here in Louisiana. I'm expecting my first child in July and your child rearing tips have been awesome! Thank you!

Very cool! Who knew you had so many lurkers?

Whoever started "national de-lurking week" clearly has a sense of humour. Over at Lory's blog, the message is, "if you don't comment, you're letting the terrorists win".

Wow! Thanks for popping out of the woodwork. How fun to know you're all there, enjoying. Nice to have met you! Okay, you can go back to lurking now.

p.s. to Anonymous 1, "raises hand", etc.: I have a strong suspicion you're a Brit. Am I right?

Everyone else: I did this post only because I wanted to post that picture. The thought of lurkers has never annoyed me, as it does some. Now, though, I'm so glad I did, because I had no idea there were so many regulars! How about that?

Q: This was started by Sheryl of PaperNapkin, who should have been credited in the post!

Sometimes I lurk, sometimes I don't; it pretty much depends on the amount of vomit in the story!

hi, I lurk, but that should be clear from the post I did on blogging baby last week that I hope sent you some traffic.

Rebecca: Nah, you busted yourself. I'd never have known you were there, but I'm glad you popped up just this once.

Ali: Welcome, and hope to see you again soon. I popped over to your funky pink site, too, and had NO IDEA who that chunky, homely, trailer trash-y chick was until the seventh or eight commenter identified her. Whoo-eee...

Simon: Vomit or innuendo: You're too much the gentleman to go there. Tomorrow's post involves boogers: stay tuned!

Dutch: Granny (Ann) emailed me the link - you must've seen me over there. Thanks for the link. I'll have to check my stats for the week, see if there was a blip - or even a surge!

Lory: There's no such thing as taking up too much comment space!! Well, yes there is. I've seen some true conversation hogs out there - but you're not one of them!

Adam Jacob: Glad to see you. I've just returned from a lurk on your site. I particularly liked that Lennon tribute image with the roses - where did you find it? (If you've fulfilled your comment quota for the year here, you can always email me.)

Not a lurker - a conversation hog perhaps?

Hi and happy de-lurking week.

Kristen: I'm happy to include you in my stable of regular commenters. Thanks!

MrsA: "Regular reader and irregular commenter" describes me on most of the blogs I read. I called myself a "part-time" lurker on a couple of blogs.

Granny: You? A hog? Not for a moment, because what you have to say is always interesting and apropos and responsive to the post and other commenters. I like long comments, if they're well thought out and interesting. (Besides, I have a tendency to leave looong comments, so you won't see this glass-house-living person casting any stones!)

Yes, yes, I admit it. I lurk. I consume. I greedily gobble up your stories without so much as saying 'thank you', 'great writing!" or even a '8-)'. Here you are, each day working your little fat kid's pencil down to a blunt nub, and what appreciation do you get from me? Just another anonymous tick in your visitor's counter.

But rest assured that those of us who don't actually raise our noses above the fence and say something still do truly appreciate your never-ending stream of well-written anecdotes. Keep up the good work!

So thanks for the prompt for me to 'delurk'. Nothing wrong with a bit of guilt-inducement now and again... Keeps me on the up-and-up!

Zero Latitude: Wow. That's quite the testimonial! I figure, if that's the quality of blatant flattery, er, well-thought-out comments I'm to get from you, you are justified in only doling them out once a quarter or so... Thank you!

As you can see from the time lag, I don't read every day, but I do read and I also make sure I don't miss any of your posts! It always feels a bit... strange... to comment on a blog for the first time, so I've never got round to saying anything to you. I really enjoy reading your stories. And it's fascinating to hear about your approach to bringing up children.

Michael: I've seen your name on the stat counter - good to know you're enjoying the blog!

Claire: Thanks for this comment, and fun to know that some of those anonymous addresses on the stat counter belong not to random one-time-only visitors, but readers who are enjoying regularly. Feel free to visit as quietly as you like, as often as you wish.
