You Know You've Been in the Biz too long when...

...you're frantically pounding out Boggle words (love that game) and argue when you're told "gots" isn't a word.

"gots" isn't a word is it?

I just checked with dictionary.com and it was only found as an acronym.

Of course, it could be a Canadianism ;-)

Ah, well you tried! I'm sure that I do similar things at times- anyone who has or spends a lot time with children probably does- although I love that you argued about it!

Look at it this way: it's just a sign of your innate sense of grammar. We learned all about it in linguistics last year!

It is a technical term, often utilized in your line of work.
It counts! ;)

Si: It is, of course, a well-known toddlerism that is probably used in the UK as well. "I got, you gots, he/she/it gots". Past tense either "gots", or "gotted".

Andie: Forgot that construction, but I hear it, too!

Angela: "Argued" probably overstates the case. More of a mental hiccup. "It is, too - oh, yeah..."

Haley: I remember that. Overgeneralization of a valid grammatical rule. Hence: singed, runned, etc. Particularly common in the 2 - 4 age range.

Lory: Oh, I like that! I'll remember it for next time - though it may be discounted on the basis of being a dialect...

Bill: And speaking of dialect, there are all those lovely acronyms used by governments (and military) everywhere!
