Another Reason to Love Darcy - the boy can cut to the chase

George and Darcy are sitting side by side on the couch, reading. Arthur bounds into the room. "You gotta be joking, George! You gotta be joking!" he proclaims. George looks up at him briefly, then returns to his book. "You gotta be joking, George! George, you gotta be joking!" This time, George doesn't even bother looking. His equanimity is impressive. Undaunted by the lack of response, Arthur merely tries harder. Moves in a little closer, leans towards George. Speaks a little louder (who knew it was possible?). "YOU GOTTA BE JOKING, GEORGE! YOU GOTTA BE JOKING!" This time it's Darcy who looks up. "Arthur. Why do you keep saying that, 'You gotta be joking', all the time?" He's not angry, he just wants to know. "I dunno." "Well then, stop it. We're trying to read here." Arthur toddles off.

LOL. Darcy rules. Arthur and the loud voice...I can picture that perfectly (gee, I wonder why?).

What book were they reading that kept their interest over an enthusiastic peer?

Kristen: Darcy's a great kid. He's always been a gentle-spirited guy, but at the same time, he takes no nonsense. Though he's big, and he does have a tendency to squash the other kids... But gently!

Granny: Me, too. I mean, I have one, but he's really only a loaner, and in the fall, he's off to school and gone from Mary's. There are some kids I see off with a sigh of relief, others I see off with a sigh of regret. Darcy's in the latter category!

Cheryl: I think Darcy will make great husband material one day. Too bad you have a boy, or we might try to set something up!

AverageMom: Even as I type there are two boys - Darcy and Arthur this time - reading on the couch. They're reading Calvin and Hobbes, as it happens, but they're reading! It must be something in the air. (Well, their approximation of reading, of course: between the two of them, they recognize about 70% of the alphabet...)

Mamacita Tina: Ummm... Today it's Calvin and Hobbes, yesterday it was "Helga's Dowry" (great book by Tomie de Paola) and "Lars, the Little Polar Bear". Day before that "Owen and Mzee". I keep a stack of twenty or thirty books in the living room, and some days, it seems like they've been through each and every one.

I am so in love with Darcy. Can we set him up with pumpkinpie, pretty please? Adn are you sure he's really a kid, not just a really short adult?
