Catching You Doing it Right: Yay for YOU

Parents of toddlers all experience humiliaphobia (fear of public tantrums) at one time or another. Who hasn't been mortified by their offspring, at least once or twice, in an indescribably public forum? * That's why my first ever Good Parenting Citation goes to Mamacita Tina, for her skillful handling of a potential department store meltdown. It's hard to keep a cool head when your child is off theirs, but the reward? Well. Imagine the Freedom! Ian and Laurel are lucky: they'll never be the kids no one wants to invite to the birthday party. Well done, Tina! Pour yourself that well-earned drink and kick back and enjoy. You've earned it. (*Like the graphic? The picture is a link to a site where you can buy it as a greeting card. Cute, huh?) ~~~~~~~~~~~~ © 2006, Mary P

What a great idea! I was thrilled to read about your bookfest too. It's hard to beat a selection of really good reads.

Thanks so much, I really needed that drink. Both kids and I have serious head colds today. Joke: how many boxes of tissues does a toddler need during a cold? Answer: none, he uses the back of his hand (or his mama's shirt).

I see I'm not the only one who says "look with your eyes, not with your hands". I need only the first couple of words anymore.

The link to the blog works; the one direct to that post doesn't (or didn't for me). No matter, as of now it's the second post down.

I love this technique. Do you know where I learned this concept first? Dog training with a clicker! People say it's tacky for childless folks to say that their dogs are their training for having children...but I swear the experience with them HAS helped me a great deal.

(raising my glass to Mamacita Tina)

Three cheers! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray!

LadyM: It's nice to read things like this, either to get confirmation of what you're doing, or learn another way to handle a potentially explosive situation.

Mamacita Tina: Urgh. Sorry to hear that! If no kleenex is at hand, and we're outside, I use leaves! Failing that, I use THEIR shirts. All this assumes I get to them before they do, mind you...

But of course, I am ORGANIZED and PROFESSIONAL. I ALWAYS have tissue. Always. ('Scuse me. All this snorting I'm doing...I need a tissue...)

Granny: There. Have fixed the link. I left an extra space in the code. Persnickety, it is.

mo-wo: Saw you'd been there.

Alli: People tend to object to using the word "training" in reference to their children, but I don't agree. Lots of people train, and see no shame in it: athletes, the thousands who attend seminars and workshops every day, craftsmen and artisans. Training is an honorable word and occupation.

So, do you use a clicker on Maya? ;-)

Lorykc: Hats off!
