Well, that's a relief!

George and Darcy play hockey. George swings the puck towards Darcy. "We are very old, but we’re not in heaven yet, so we can play hockey." Darcy likes this idea. "Yeah, we’re old." "Does that mean you can’t play hockey in heaven?" I ask, casually. Yes, I am playing with their heads, shit-disturber that I am. Shut it. The boys stop playing, stand upright in consternation. It's a Radical Thought. Heaven without hockey? Impossible! A place without hockey is, by definition, That Other Place. What a conundrum. Is there a solution? Yes! and George knows it. "Oh, yes you can! There’s ice on the clouds!" Phew.

It's not messing with their heads1 It's 'expanding their brains.' They're developing the skills to solve those problems that strike you at five a.m. after a sleepless night.

Yeah George!

I like that he thinks like that under pressure.

I'll always want George on my side when I call him to help me answer a tough question on "Who Wants to be A Millionaire?"

Oh, wait, is that show still on?

Just the fact that they are thinking about heaven is something!
Don't tell George, but my own personal heaven will not include hockey.

Beckajo: Had a lot of those nights, have you? :-)

Homie2: Bet you would have when you were four!

Lorykc, Mamacita Tina: He is. Very.

kittenpie: Well, of course! And it rains because...? Ah! Because on hot days, the ice melts on the way down!

kimmyk: The pressure was on, because otherwise, there'd be no hockey in heaven!!! How AWFUL!!

Granny: He is, indeed. I loved listening to this one, because just about everything that came out of that little mouth was interesting!

Jennifer: He'd be very calm. George doesn't often get flustered - and when he does, it's over completely idiosyncratic things.

(Being under those bright lights and answering questions? No sweat. Discovering that the very yummy meat on your sandwich is not baloney but is in fact ham? BIG problem!)

Average Mom: Heaven is a pretty popular topic at this age. Between four and seven, kids often get very interested in the "big questions". Whether their interest grows or withers away will generally depend on how their parents respond - but the interest seems to be innate.

Wow. Hockey in heaven. That is an interesting thought. I gave up hockey in high school when I decided that I would not survive the flagrant checking.
